Key Losses: Doug Holt, a top three runner for the Garnets in 2006 who finished 13th at South Jersey Group 2 sectionals and 25th at the Group 2 state championships.

Key Returnees: Senior Mickey Borsellino and junior Josh Black. Borsellino was the team’s No. 1 runner last fall as he took seventh at South Jersey Group 2 sectionals and 18th at the Group 2 state meet (17:18 at Holmdel). Black was an automatic top three finisher last season for Heights, placing 16th at South Jersey Group 2 sectionals.

Runningco.com says: Returning six of its top seven runners from a 2006 team that finished third at South Jersey Group 2 sectionals and fourth at the Group 2 state meet, Heights will be one of South Jersey’s top teams this fall. Coach Matt Martin’s group will feature a nice top two in senior Mickey Borsellino and junior Josh Black, both of who should be at the front of most races this season. After those two, Heights’ top seven should be made up of sophomore Teague Brody-Carney, senior Andrew Whitman, senior Colin Cole, sophomore Dillon McLaughlin and junior Colin Lynch. With Heights dropping down a classification to South Jersey Group 1 this season, the Garnets look to be the preseason favorite to win the sectional title and should be right in the mix for a state title.
