Runningco.com says: With six of his top seven back from a team that took eighth at South Jersey Group 4 sectionals last fall, coach Nick Mitidieri enters the 2007 season with his best team in years. The Lions have plenty of depth and experience, but are not familiar with grabbing top-three finishes at major meets. That could change this season. Up at the front of the pack will be senior Andrew Sturner, who’s one of the top returning seniors in South Jersey this year. After him, West has a nice pack that features senior Kunal Sharma, junior Raphael Bravo and seniors Ryan Britton and Cameron Widerman. The other returning top-seven runner from 2006 is senior Steve MacDonald. The final varsity spot is still up in the air, according to Mitidieri. With this lineup, West will challenge Shawnee for the Olympic Patriot title. But the real test for this team will come at sectionals. Will the Lions be able to sneak into the top five that usually consists of Cherokee, Mainland and at least two Ocean County teams? The talent is there. We’ll just have to wait and see. |
