Despite running without senior Yoel Almonte and junior Raphael Bravo – both top-five runners – the Cherry Hill West boys’ cross country team, ranked No. 8 in Runningco.com’s Top 20, still managed to win the Class 3A title on Saturday October 6 at the Disney XC Classic, held in Orlando, Fla., as the Lions edged Seminole (Sanford, Fla.) 72-74.
The 3A race was one of four boys’ varsity races held on the Wide World of Sports Complex’s 5,000-meter course.
Top finisher for West was senior Andrew Sturner, who took third in 16:21. Luke Lovelace, a 2006 Footlocker finalist, out of Chapin in South Carolina won the race in 15:31, while Seminole’s Christian Homme was second in 16:15.
Following Sturner for the Lions was senior Kunal Sharma (fifth, 16:45), senior Cameron Widerman (15th, 17:34), senior Ryan Britton (19th, 17:42) and sophomore Eric Werner (33rd, 17:59).
